Extreme Live Gaming had a really interesting run in the live casino space before getting absorbed into larger companies. Founded in 2013 by entrepreneur Darwyn Palenzuela in London with the specific goal of taking live dealer games to a new competitive level, they quickly made waves with their innovative approach. Novomatic Group acquired them in 2014, recognizing their potential, then in June 2018 Pragmatic Play bought the company to kickstart their own live casino division. What made Extreme unique was their LiveBox technology, which streamed games directly from real brick-and-mortar casinos like Casino Admiral in Gibraltar – basically letting online players bet on actual casino floor games in real-time, which was pretty groundbreaking at the time. Their portfolio focused heavily on roulette variants including Golden Ball Roulette, Ra Roulette, Sizzling Hot Roulette, and Lucky Lady’s Roulette, along with blackjack and baccarat tables. They operated from state-of-the-art studios in London (specifically in Novomatic’s Brentford building) and were licensed by both the UK Gambling Commission and Malta Gaming Authority. After the Pragmatic Play acquisition, the Extreme brand was gradually phased out as Pragmatic integrated the technology and team into their own live casino offering, but their innovations influenced how the industry thinks about blending land-based and online experiences.
